Desert Discovery Center Scottsdale, Inc. is currently under contract with the City of Scottsdale to create a business plan and feasibility analysis for the proposed Desert Discovery Center; to conduct public outreach; and to explore the fundraising potential of the project. This 18-month contract was awarded on Jan. 11, 2016 and the Notice to Proceed was given on Feb. 1, 2016.

The Scope of Work includes three phases of Community Conversations:

  • Project Planning – sharing the history of the Desert Discovery Center concept, what the project is and isn’t, the project scope and the process
  • Programming – sharing meaningful feedback gleaned during the Project Planning phase with the project architect (Swaback Partners, PLLC, hired by the City of Scottsdale) and the experience designer (Thinc Design, hired by Desert Discovery Center Scottsdale, Inc.) as both work together to come up with initial project concepts for public input
  • Project Concept Plan – identifying the inside (what exhibits and programming would be included) and the outside (look, size, scope), as well as estimated cost for both
